A Christmas Open Letter To You

This is an open letter to you, who reads this. You may be a member of my family. You might be a friend. You could be an acquaintance, or we may have a professional relationship. Or perhaps, you fell onto this blog in all hazard and if that’s the case, even more power to you!

I simply want to take this Christmas Eve as the opportunity to thank you all for being part of my life. Remember that beyond the presents, beyond the commercialization of Christmas, or whether you celebrate it or not, whether you are a Christian or not, there is a meaning to it. God sent us his Son to give us the message of love, hope and forgiveness.

Remember those who have left us to meet God and Jesus. But do not dwell on it, as it is not what they would want you to do. Even when filled with sadness, we always have a choice to be miserable or happy. Remember that how we feel, how we react, what we are, we share with those around us. Be there for one another. Listen to one another. Love one another. Hug your loved ones and tell them how you feel, as if it was the last chance you have to do it. Because one day, it will be.

Remember those who are spending Christmas alone, away from family and loved ones. Cherish the moments, not the presents. Create memories and if you are in no position to create new ones, bring your mind back to those happy moments that you have had with your loved ones. Do whatever it takes to put a smile on your face. Share a smile with those who don’t have one, as they are likely the ones who need it most. Do a good deed or two, as it will make you and those who benefit from it feel better.

Thank you for reading me and/or listening to me every day, every week. Know that often times, my words, my actions and the reason for me acting like a goof with you all is an attempt to put a smile on your face. In hope that this smile, even laughing at my own stupidity, might start your day on the right foot, or bring you a little ray of sunshine at a time when you could use it most.

Let the magic of Christmas fill you. Better yet, be the magic of Christmas.

Thank you for being there, for being who you are and to every single one of you, as well as to your loved ones, I wish a very Merry Christmas!

Jocelyn, Joce, JD, Dad, Grandpa, Son, Honey… even Arsehole.
