We have retired young, my wife and I. Oh we’re not living a rich life money-wise and we could go back to work. We might, or we could chose to do volunteer work. But we have made a conscious decision to disconnect from a pattern of self-destruction, and chose to live life to its fullest instead… while we still can.
One of my grand-fathers worked his entire life to support eight children and a wife. Finally, at 65, he retired. Soon after his retirement party, he suffered a stroke. When he thought that he would finally enjoy life, he had to relearn to speak and to walk. Months later, after all of this hard work to come back to “normal”, he had a second stroke and this time, he did not survive it.
Think about it for a minute…
You work 8 hours (or more) to live 4.
You work 5 or 6 days to enjoy 1.
You work 8 hours to eat in 15-30 minutes.
You work 8 hours to sleep 5 to 7.
You work all year just to take a week or two vacation.
You work all your life to retire in old age, and to contemplate only your last breaths.
You waste much of your leisure time on your phone, making virtual friends on social media, with people who won’t be there for you when you really need them.
You spend your time off playing video games, watching sports, instead of creating memories with true loved ones.
Eventually you realize that life is nothing but a parody of yourself practicing for your own oblivion.
We have become so accustomed to material and social slavery that we no longer see the chains.
Life is a short journey, live it! Collect memories, not material things!
