In a small village lived a man named Simon. Simon was known throughout the village for his kindness and generosity. He spent his days helping those in need, offering a comforting word or a helping hand to anyone who crossed his path.
But despite his outward cheerfulness, Simon carried a heavy burden in his heart. His beloved wife, Sarah, had passed away less than a year ago, leaving him to raise their young daughter, Ruth, on his own. Each day was a struggle for Simon as he tried to come to terms with his loss and provide for his daughter.
As Easter approached, Simon found himself overwhelmed with grief. It seemed that everywhere he turned, he was reminded of Sarah and the life they had once shared together. Despite his efforts to stay strong for Ruth, he couldn’t shake the feeling of emptiness that consumed him.
One evening, as Simon sat alone in his humble home, he heard a gentle knock at the door. Surprised, he rose from his chair and opened it to find a stranger standing on his doorstep. The stranger was a kind-looking man with a warm smile and eyes that seemed to hold a wisdom beyond his years.
“Peace be with you,” the stranger said, his voice soft and soothing. “My name is Jesus.“
Simon felt a strange sense of comfort wash over him at the sound of the stranger’s name. He invited Jesus into his home, and they sat together, talking late into the night. Jesus listened intently as Simon poured out his heart, sharing his grief and his struggles.
As they talked, Jesus spoke words of hope and reassurance to Simon, reminding him that even in the darkest of times, there was always light to be found. He told Simon of his own journey, of his suffering and eventual triumph over death. And as Simon listened, he felt a glimmer of hope begin to stir within him.
The following morning, Simon awoke with a newfound sense of purpose. Inspired by his conversation with Jesus, he set out to embrace life once more, determined to honour Sarah’s memory by living each day to the fullest.
As Easter Sunday dawned, Simon and Ruth made their way to the village square to join in the Easter festivities. As they listened to the story of Jesus’ resurrection being told, Simon felt a deep sense of gratitude wash over him. He realized that Easter was about more than just chocolate eggs and colourful baskets—it was a celebration of new life and the promise of redemption.
And as he watched Ruth’s eyes light up with joy as she hunted for Easter eggs, Simon knew that Sarah was smiling down on them from heaven. In that moment, he understood the true meaning of Easter—that even in the face of death, there was always hope, and that love had the power to conquer even the darkest of days.
