A young boy approached his grandfather with a gleam of ambition in his eyes.
“Grandpa,” he began, “I dream of being a star, acting in movies, exploring the world, driving luxurious cars, and living in a beautiful glass house. I want to be successful and achieve great things. How can I chase my dreams and reach them faster?“
His grandfather paused, then turned and noticed a stunning butterfly fluttering gracefully over a flower. He exclaimed,
“Wow! Look at that magnificent butterfly! Quick, chase after it! Catch it before it flies away!“
The boy dashed towards the butterfly, but as he reached out, it soared into the air, drifting just out of reach. Determined, he ran after it, but the butterfly effortlessly danced away. After several exhausting attempts, he finally returned to his grandfather, breathless and empty-handed.
“Grandpa,” he panted, “I couldn’t catch it. It flew away.“
With a gentle smile, the grandfather took the boy’s hand and led him to a quiet corner. Once the boy had caught his breath, the grandfather leaned in and softly said,
“Let me share a valuable lesson with you. If you spend your life chasing butterflies, they will always elude you. But if you focus on creating a beautiful garden, the butterflies will come to you. Think of that butterfly as your dreams and goals. In the rush to achieve, we often lose sight of the bigger picture. Instead of chasing fleeting moments, devote your time to building something meaningful—a skill, a project, or a relationship. By nurturing and growing these, you create an environment where success and opportunities naturally find their way to you. Don’t chase love, wealth, or success. Focus on becoming the best version of yourself, and these things will follow.“
