Disconnecting To Better Reconnect

In a world overwhelmed by endless screens, constant consumption, and disconnected relationships, the need to let go of what doesn’t really matter and reclaim a life filled with purpose has never felt more urgent. This isn’t just about taking a break—it’s a conscious pushback against the chaos that dulls our spirits. It’s about shedding the harmful clutter of modern life and rediscovering the quiet, meaningful moments that truly matter. What follows is my roadmap: to step away from what drains me, return to what grounds me, and build a life centered on calm, connection, and hopefully, clarity.

I Need to Disconnect…

  • From the endless scroll of negativity, outrage, and divisiveness that stains every screen and conversation.
  • From self-proclaimed influencers peddling empty narratives and manufactured authenticity.
  • From those who trade integrity for followers, profits, or short-lived internet fame.
  • From the erosion of common sense in everyday interactions and institutions.
  • From the culture of ridiculing others’ beliefs instead of seeking understanding.
  • From the petty battles of online bickering, bullying, and public shouting matches.
  • From the 24/7 flood of Canadian, U.S., and global news cycles designed to paralyze with fear.
  • From screens and electronics that fragment focus and drain presence.
  • From society’s obsession with metrics—likes, clicks, and status—as measures of worth.
  • From stress’s corrosive effects on our body and mind, shortening our breath and dimming our spirit.

I Need to Reconnect…

  • With cherished loved ones, prioritizing slow, undistracted time.
  • With nature’s healing effects: forest trails, chirping birds, sunrises and sunsets that recalibrate my soul.
  • With sacred silence, far from sirens, notifications, and the hum of artificial urgency.
  • With God, finding peace and hope through prayer and trust in a higher plan.
  • With joy in the ordinary—outdoors morning coffee, and unhurried conversations.
  • With life’s simple gifts: the smell of rain, snuggles with the dogs, the warmth of a shared blanket.
  • With my own voice, values, and intuition, buried under years of noise and people-pleasing.

I Need to Discover…

  • The grounding power of meditation (maybe even yoga?) to quiet the mind.
  • A sustainable and regular exercise—walks, swims, or stretches.
  • Hobbies that spark curiosity and creativity: learning a language, paint, play guitar, or continue writing.
  • Daily rituals that make every moment feel sacred, like savouring morning coffee or meditating under open skies.
  • The courage to fully embrace a slower, more intentional way of living.

Conclusion:

Reflecting on these truths, I realize this isn’t just a theoretical exercise—they’re a plan I’ve already seen in action. On a recent trip, I found a way of living that matches everything I’ve been craving: Pura Vida, a lifestyle deeply rooted in Costa Rica. It’s not just a saying or a fad. It’s the real-life rhythm of slow pace living, choosing community over competition, and finding joy in simplicity.

Now, I don’t just want a quick glimpse—I want to dive in fully. With the woman I love beside me, I’m ready to go back to where it all clicked for me, for us: Costa Rica. There, we’ll let Pura Vida reshape our days, not as tourists, but as students of its wisdom. We’ll let its lessons shape our days, live like every moment counts, and finally free to live as if every breath matters. At this stage in our lives, we have earned this.
