Dating Advice: The Match

Ethan was 34 and still very much a bachelor. He wasn’t bad-looking, had a good paying job, and even owned his own condo, but no serious relationships had ever stuck.

One afternoon, while grabbing coffee with his old college buddy Jake, the inevitable question came up:

Ethan, man… why haven’t you settled down yet? Still no one special?

Ethan let out a weary sigh.

Oh, I’ve met lots of great women over the years. Smart, funny, beautiful… But every time I bring one home to meet my parents, my mom finds something wrong. Too loud, too quiet, too independent, too clingy. Nothing’s ever good enough. Being a family man, it’s important to me that the woman I spend the rest of my life with gets along with my parents.

Jake took a sip of his latte, then leaned in with a smirk.
Dude. It’s obvious. Just find someone exactly like your mom. Problem solved.

Ethan laughed but tucked the advice away.

Three months later, they bumped into each other at the park.

Jake raised an eyebrow. “So? Did you try what I said?

Ethan gave a half-smile and nodded. “Yep. Found someone who could’ve been Mom’s long-lost twin. Same taste in books, same sense of humour, even the same way of correcting my grammar mid-sentence.

Jake grinned. “Nice! So your mom must have loved her?

Oh, she adored her,” Ethan said, rolling his eyes. “She even wanted me to marry her!

“So what’s the holdup? Sounds perfect!

Ethan shook his head, exasperated.

Now my dad can’t stand her.

Moral of the story:

Trying to please both parents in your love life? Might as well try herding cats with a whistle. Pick someone your heart loves and not someone who gives your parents flashbacks. 😁
