Thirty-Five Years and One Bold Request

They sat tucked away in the corner of a quiet little restaurant. The kind with real tablecloths, soft candlelight, and a waiter who knows when to refill the wine without interrupting the moment.

It was their 35th wedding anniversary. Not the flashy kind that gets a big cake or a write-up in the paper. But for them, it marked something far more meaningful. Three and a half decades of weathering storms, raising kids, holding each other through losses, and still laughing at each other’s jokes, even the ones they’d heard a hundred times.

As they clinked glasses, something unexpected happened.

A soft shimmer filled the air, and right there on their table, a tiny, graceful fairy appeared. She had a glow about her, almost like the northern lights wrapped into one.

You two,” she said gently, “have something rare. Thirty-five years of love, loyalty, and endurance. That deserves recognition. I’ll grant each of you one wish.

The wife smiled, her eyes already misting. “I want to see the world. No timelines, no work calls, no responsibilities. Just the two of us, exploring and exhaling.

The fairy nodded and, with a flick of her wand, two first-class tickets to circle the globe appeared in her hands. The wife’s eyes lit up.

Then it was the husband’s turn.

He paused. Looked at the tickets. Then at his wife. Then back at the fairy.

Well,” he said, clearing his throat, “this is probably a once-in-a-lifetime offer… so, I’m sorry, my love, but I’d like a wife 30 years younger than me.

The room went still.

The fairy frowned. The wife blinked. But a wish is a wish.

She gave a quiet sigh, drew a circle in the air with her wand and just like that, the husband was 92 years old.

Moral of the story:

Be careful what you wish for and remember: fairies have a sense of humour. And yes… they’re definitely women.
