The Genius Behind Her Love

Andrew was a man of few words, but that didn’t mean his heart was quiet. No, his thoughts ran deep, like the old lake up at the cabin. Still on the surface, full of life underneath. And on that particular afternoon, sitting in his well-worn chair with a coffee that had just the right amount of cream, his mind wandered to her.

His wife.

He glanced toward the kitchen where the faint clatter of dishes mixed with the scent of something savoury still lingering in the air. She had just cooked another meal that could have won prizes or started family feuds, depending who you asked. To Andrew, it was perfection. The woman could make a Sunday roast feel like a homecoming and grilled cheese taste like a memory.

She wasn’t just a good cook. She was kind too, in the real way. Not in the showy, look-at-me way that fades as quick as a filtered photo, but the kind that sticks. The kind that says thank you to grocery clerks and still sends birthday cards to people who forgot hers.

And yes, she was beautiful. Not like a magazine cover, but in the way that made people stand a little taller around her. There was a light in her, one that made even bad days seem like they had a purpose.

So, Andrew did something he didn’t usually do. He looked up toward the ceiling and asked softly, “God… why did you make her so kind?

And somehow, in that quiet way the world sometimes answers when we least expect it, he heard:

So you could love her, my son.

He smiled and nodded. That made sense.

Then came the next question. “Alright then… why did you make her so beautiful?

Again, the same peaceful voice: “So you could love her, my son.

Andrew chuckled. “And her cooking? That woman could make shoe leather taste like prime rib.

The answer came without hesitation. “So you could love her, my son.

It all lined up. Kindness, beauty, the gift of turning potatoes into poetry. All so he could love her.

But Andrew, being human, let a thought sneak in. A risky one. The kind you probably shouldn’t say out loud, but sometimes curiosity overrules wisdom.

God,” he said carefully, “I mean this with all due respect… but why didn’t you make her just a little bit smarter?

This time, the answer came with what could only be described as a divine chuckle. Warm, gentle, and maybe a little amused.

So she could love you.

Andrew sat back in his chair, nearly spilled his coffee, and laughed hard enough to make his belly shake. He didn’t need to ask anything else. He got it.

It wasn’t about perfection. It never had been. She had strengths where he had blind spots, and she saw past his faults with a grace that could only come from loving someone not because they’re perfect, but in spite of the fact that they never will be.

And maybe that was the point all along.

We’re not designed to be puzzle pieces that fit perfectly. We’re meant to be rough edges and mismatched corners that somehow hold together when life shakes the table. Love, the real kind, isn’t logical. It’s generous. It overlooks. It forgives. It laughs at itself and goes right on loving.

So the next time you wonder why your partner leaves the cupboard doors open, forgets your birthday, or can’t figure out how to fold a towel properly, maybe ask yourself what they put up with to love you.
