They say love softens over time, but apparently, so does saying it out loud. That became pretty obvious one Saturday morning at a community hall, where a bunch of women showed up for a workshop on keeping romance alive.
The instructor, a lively woman with a grin that said she’d seen it all, decided to try a little experiment.
“All right, ladies,” she said, “how many of you love your husbands?”
Every hand shot up faster than a cork on New Year’s Eve.
“Good! Now… when was the last time you told him?”
You could’ve heard a pin drop. A few women shuffled in their chairs. Some stared off into space, as if the answer might be floating somewhere near the ceiling. One said “This morning,” another whispered “Yesterday,” and a few wore that face people get when they know they’re about to fail a quiz.
The instructor grinned like a woman who knew she’d just opened Pandora’s box. “Okay, grab your phones and text your husbands this exact message: ‘I love you, Honey.’”
The room filled with nervous laughter. One woman muttered, “He’s going to think I’ve lost it.” But everyone sent the message anyway.
“Now,” said the instructor, “trade phones with the person next to you and read his reply out loud.”
That’s when things got interesting.
Here are a few of the actual responses:
The laughter that followed could’ve shaken the rafters. One woman was crying from laughing so hard, another nearly dropped her phone, and a third was just staring at the screen like she’d seen a ghost.
The instructor chuckled. “Ladies, if your husband’s response included panic, suspicion, or mild fear, congratulations. You’re officially in a long-term relationship.”
By the end, everyone agreed to say “I love you” a little more often, not as part of a workshop, but just because. Preferably before giving their husbands another mild heart attack.
Moral of the story:
Never underestimate the power of an unexpected “I love you.” Just be prepared for the poor guy’s honest confusion when it lands.
