The Sound of Stillness

We drown the quiet in a flood of noise
Convince ourselves it’s simply how we cope
We scroll and chatter, juggling shiny toys
Afraid that silence might expose our hope

The television hums to guard the night
A glowing screen becomes our loyal friend
We fear what waits beyond that restless light
Where unsaid thoughts sit patient at the end

Stillness taps gently upon the door
It never barges in or shouts our name
It waits like footprints on a quiet shore
Inviting us to step into the same

Within that hush, old memories greet the dawn
Regrets and dreams pull up a kitchen chair
Some truths arrive with slippers loosely drawn
And ask us why we never left them there

We learn our worth is not in constant sound
Nor measured by the busyness we wear
The truest compass rarely spins around
It points us inward, asking if we care

So let the silence pour another drink
Sit down with it, despite the awkward start
For in that pause, we finally stop to think
And hear the quiet wisdom of the heart
