Welcome to Grumpa’s Porch

Pull up a chair. Seriously. Want a cup of warm coffee or perhaps a cold beer? This place was never meant to be loud, polished, or in a hurry. Grumpa.ca exists for people who still enjoy a good story, a sharp laugh, and the occasional truth that sneaks up on you when you were only expecting entertainment.

I’m JD. Some folks call me Grumpa. I’ve written well over 700 pieces here over the years, mostly because life keeps handing me material and I keep refusing to shut up about it. The stories range from funny to thoughtful, sometimes both at once, and they usually carry a small lesson tucked inside, like a fortune cookie that swore a little.

This page explains how you can support the site if you choose to, and what you get in return. No guilt. No pressure. Just clarity.

Why This Page Exists

Running a blog is not free, no matter how simple it looks. Hosting, security, backups, themes, and the domain all come with costs. I cover those gladly, but I also believe that if something brings value, laughter, or perspective into your life, it is fair to give readers an option to support it.

That support does not go toward yachts, sports cars, or early retirement. It goes toward keeping this site alive, organized, and worth returning to.

Buy Me a Coffee

If a story made you laugh, nod, or quietly say “damn, that’s true”, buying me a coffee is a simple way to say thanks.

It is exactly what it sounds like. A small gesture. No subscriptions. No commitments. Just support, one cup at a time.

The Digital Books

After years of writing, scrolling through hundreds of posts became a chore for readers and for me. So I did the unglamorous work of going through every piece and sorting them into themed digital books.

Each book is a curated collection of stories that belong together. Humour, tips, reflections, and life lessons are mixed throughout, always in the same voice you know from the blog. These are not filler collections. They are hand-picked and thoughtfully arranged so readers can choose exactly what interests them.

The books are short enough to enjoy without commitment and substantial enough to feel worth your time. They are priced affordably, because good writing should not feel like a luxury item.

What You’ll Find Inside

Every book contains a mix of:

  • Humorous stories rooted in real life
  • Honest observations about getting older, wiser, and occasionally humbler
  • Practical tips where they make sense
  • Reflections that make you think about priorities, relationships, and how we spend our days

You can read one in a single sitting or dip in and out. Either way, they are meant to feel familiar, not formal.

Browse by Interest

Instead of hunting through hundreds of posts, you can now choose what fits your mood or curiosity. From Costa Rica life and travel mishaps to relationships, aging, food, lists, poetry, and a few blush-worthy stories that behave themselves just enough, there is something here for most readers.

New collections are added regularly, and existing ones grow as more stories find their proper home.

A Final Word

Supporting this site is optional. Reading is free. Always has been.

If you choose to buy a coffee or a book, know that it helps keep this corner of the internet running and encourages me to keep writing the kind of stories that do not fit neatly into algorithms or trends.

Thanks for being here. Thanks for reading. And thanks, most of all, for valuing stories that still sound human.
