The Pursuit of Perfection

When we’re young, we are looking for the perfect life partner. Men want to be the star athlete searching for the most beautiful and appealing woman there is. Women feel like this princess awaiting to be kissed by her knight in shining armour. But as you grow older, you realize that there is no such thing as perfection. Then you realize that what you’re looking for is someone who is most compatible to what you are looking for in life.

And then, there’s the self-shaming. So many people feel like they’re not deserving of something good or better, either physically or mentally, and are limiting themselves. A lot of this doubt is based on the images projected of the perfect man or woman, though magazines and medias of all kinds. Social media has amplified this phenomenon, even adding the aspect of mass-bullying, piling on to the already weak self-confidence of so many in our society.

Bob Marley was once asked if there was a perfect woman. He replied :

“Who cares about perfection?

Even the moon is not perfect, it is full of craters.

The sea is incredibly beautiful, but salty and dark in the depths.

The sky is always infinite, but often cloudy.

So, everything that is beautiful isn’t perfect, it’s special.

Therefore, every woman can be special to someone.

Stop being “perfect”, but try to be free and live, doing what you love, not wanting to impress others!”

Truer words could not have been spoken.

It is devastating seeing people being unhappy with themselves, even depressed, with their body, with their life, based on what they see on television, in magazines and on the internet. Live your life. Try to improve on yourself but do not fall in the trap of comparing yourself to others. You are… you! And that should be enough.
