During a seminar on personal development, a speaker initiated an unexpected group activity. He distributed balloons among the attendees, asking each to inscribe their name on one. After collecting the balloons, he directed everyone to a nearby room and challenged them to locate their own balloon within five minutes.
Chaos ensued as they rushed in, jostling and bumping into one another in their frantic quest.
When the allotted time elapsed, not a single person had succeeded.
The speaker then proposed a solution: each individual should select a random balloon and return it to the person whose name adorned it. In a matter of minutes, everyone reclaimed their balloon.
Addressing the group, the speaker reflected, “What occurred with those balloons mirrors our pursuit of happiness. We often seek it fervently, yet without direction.“
“Yet, true happiness resides in the happiness of others. By fostering their joy, we cultivate our own.”
Moral of the story:
Happiness and fulfilment rarely come from selfish pursuits, but almost always come from doing good deeds for others. By helping others we help ourselves.
