Walter and Ethel made it a tradition to visit the state fair annually. Each time they passed by the helicopter, Walter would express his desire for a ride. Ethel, however, consistently reminded him, “Walter, that helicopter ride costs 50 dollars, and 50 dollars is 50 dollars.

As the years went by, Walter, now 87, grew more determined. He told Ethel, “Ethel, at my age, this might be my last chance to ride that helicopter.” Unfazed, Ethel responded, “Walter, the helicopter is 50 dollars, and 50 dollars is 50 dollars.

This time, the helicopter pilot overheard their conversation and made them an offer. “I’ll take you both for a ride for free, but only if you can stay silent throughout the entire trip. If you utter a single word, it’s 50 dollars.

Walter and Ethel agreed, and the helicopter took off. The pilot executed thrilling maneuvers, but not a peep came from the couple. Even as the helicopter performed daring stunts, Walter and Ethel remained completely silent.

Upon landing, the impressed pilot commended Walter, saying, “I tried everything to get a reaction from you, but you stayed quiet. I’m impressed!

Walter chuckled and replied, “Honestly, I almost said something when Ethel fell out, but, you know, 50 dollars is 50 dollars!
