At our core, we’re all remarkably alike. We crave to be heard, to be understood, to be lifted up but more than anything, we need love. When that’s missing, the ache runs just as deep as hunger.
In a world where comfort is abundant, we often confuse eating with true nourishment. We can’t consume everything without harm, but we can feed ourselves endlessly with beauty, warmth, connection, and joy.
A breathtaking view, the glow of a fireplace, a tender kiss, a familiar scent, a pet’s affection, a moment of shared laughter… all of these are soul food. They gently fill the emptiness we try to stuff with food, distraction, or noise.
People are hurting. They’re anxious, overwhelmed by bad news, desperate for a glimpse of happiness, but they forget: joy isn’t something to chase. It’s something we breathe in, if we allow ourselves to.
But how do you tell someone that the healing they seek outside is really waiting within? That the answers aren’t in someone else’s voice, but in the quiet return to their own heart? We’ve forgotten how to listen. Instead, we perform. We compare. We scroll past lives polished for display, never seeing the backstage mess. We look for treasure in all the wrong places and in doing so, we grow colder and more lost.
So many wander without direction. They let others define them, tell them what they are or should be. They chase possessions, thinking that’s what makes a life. But when the final journey comes, what truly remains?
What do we leave behind that isn’t wrapped in price tags or stored in boxes?
People feel stuck. They mourn their missteps, struggle with decisions, and fear change because life moves too fast and shifting means risk. So they stay put, carrying regret like sweat on their backs. And in the layers of experience, what remains if not a life stripped of its meaning?
Someone needs to say it:
You’re allowed to grow, to forgive, to release toxic ties and give yourself permission to live, even if you’ve stumbled. Because change is always possible. Someone should whisper that guilt isn’t a life sentence. That behind every wall of doubt, there’s still warmth.
That it’s okay to smile again for those you love, for those yet to come… or just to make it through the day with a little more light.
Someone should show that the world doesn’t revolve around pain, pride, or buried family burdens. That we can offer ourselves kindness, even for the parts of life we can never forget.
Just a bit of compassion toward yourself. Because spoken truths can heal, kind words can wash away grief, and slowly, light pushes out the shadows. It’s not fantasy. It’s not naive. It’s hard, yes. But then again, what isn’t?
Knowing yourself changes everything. It quiets the hunger for validation and opens the door to deeper connections with others. It’s a gift you give yourself, starting with a simple choice.
Just a few words that can change your life, if you’re ready to say them:
“Today, I choose to care for myself, so I can care more deeply for others—and give them the best of who I truly am.“
