Wisdom is a funny thing. We spend the first half of our lives trying to learn everything we can, and the second half discovering how much of it really matters. Some lessons come from books, some from experience, and some arrive the hard way, usually without an invitation. The older I get, the more I believe wisdom isn’t about knowing all the answers. It’s about learning which questions are worth asking, which battles are worth fighting, which people are worth keeping, and when it’s time to simply let go.
Here are a few pieces of wisdom I’ve picked up along the way. Some I’ve learned through experience, some through watching others, and a few probably required me to make the mistake myself before the lesson finally stuck.
Don’t complicate life. We won’t be here forever. Your time is too valuable to waste on nonsense.
Not everyone will understand your journey and that’s okay. Keep going anyway, because your purpose is bigger than their opinions.
Be selective in your battles. Sometimes, peace is better than being right.
The most expensive liquid in the world is a tear. It’s 1% water and 99% feelings. Think before you hurt someone.
I learned to give. Not because I have much, but because I know exactly how it feels to have nothing.
A person’s most beautiful asset is not a head full of knowledge, but a heart full of love, an ear ready to listen and a hand willing to help others.
Behaviour is sometimes greater than knowledge. Because in life, there are many situations where knowledge fails, but behaviour can handle everything.
Life becomes more peaceful when you stop trying to prove yourself. Let people think and say what they want. It’s not your burden to carry.
We always work for a better tomorrow. But when tomorrow comes, instead of enjoying, we again think of a better tomorrow! Let’s have a better today.
Those who spend their time looking for faults in others usually spend no time to correct their own.
Sometimes, things that hurt you the most also teach you the greatest lessons in life.
Money never impressed me. I’ve met ugly souls in expensive clothes and beautiful hearts with empty pockets.
Never be a prisoner of your past. It was just a lesson, not a life sentence.
Your past can explain why you became who you are. But it doesn’t have the authority to decide who you become next.
Some chapters were written to teach you, not to keep you there. Take the wisdom, leave the pain, and keep walking. You don’t owe your past the rest of your life.
I don’t walk away to teach people a lesson. I walk away because I learned mine.
You can’t go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending.
Some stranger, somewhere, still remembers you because you were kind to them when no one else was.
You don’t need to attend every argument you’re invited to. Sometimes, protecting your peace is more important than proving your point.
One day, you’ll realize the things you worried about most rarely mattered as much as you thought. Enjoy today while you still have it.
Life doesn’t come with an instruction manual, which is probably why we spend so much of it learning by screwing things up. But perhaps that’s the point. We aren’t here to get everything right. We’re here to learn, love, grow, forgive, help one another and leave a little kindness behind us when we go. If even one of these lessons makes you stop and think, perhaps the years have taught us something worth passing along.
