The Tale of the Honest Chicken

One day, a teacher, Miss Primrose, posed a curious question to the class. She asked her students, “Children, what is your favourite animal?” Now, young Timmy, with a twinkle in his eye, promptly responded, “Fried chicken“.

Miss Primrose, not amused, shook her head and said, “That’s not funny, Timmy“. But the classroom erupted in laughter, for everyone else found it rather amusing.

At home, Timmy’s parents had always emphasized the importance of honesty. So, naturally, he spoke the truth—fried chicken was indeed his favourite animal. When Timmy relayed the day’s events to his father, his father chuckled and remarked, “Miss Primrose must be a member of PETA. They love animals very, very much“.

Timmy nodded seriously, “I love animals too, Dad, especially chicken, pork, and beef.”

The next day, back in the classroom, Miss Primrose tried again. “Timmy,” she asked, “what is your favourite LIVE animal?” Timmy, ever honest, replied, “Chicken“. When asked why, he innocently explained, “Because you can make them into fried chicken“.

Miss Primrose sighed and sent Timmy to the principal’s office once more. The principal, Mr. Goodfellow, listened to Timmy’s tale and couldn’t help but chuckle. “Timmy,” he chuckled, “you must learn to curb your humour. But I do appreciate your honesty“.

Undeterred, Timmy returned to class. Miss Primrose, determined to elicit a more conventional response, asked him, “Timmy, tell us which famous person you admire most“.

Without missing a beat, Timmy answered, “Colonel Sanders“. The class roared with laughter once more, but Timmy was promptly sent back to the Principle’s office.

As he sat outside the principal’s office, Timmy pondered the last couple of days’ events. His parents had taught him the value of honesty, yet it seemed that honesty was not always welcome at school…
