As they sat on the porch, watching the evening sky blush with hues of pink and orange, the pregnant woman playfully nudged her husband and asked, āWhat are you hoping forāour baby, a boy or a girl?ā
The husband leaned back, a thoughtful smile crossing his face. āIf itās a boy,ā he began, āIāll teach him how to solve math problems, take him fishing, and share the joy of working out together. Iāll guide him to grow strong, both in body and mind.ā
The woman chuckled, her curiosity growing. āAnd if itās a girl?ā
His eyes softened as he turned to her. āIf itās a girl,ā he said with a gentle laugh, āI wonāt have to teach her much. Sheāll teach me. Sheāll show me how to dress, what to say, and when to say nothing at all. Sheāll refine me in ways I never imagined. Sheāll become my second mother, always fussing over whether Iāve eaten enough or if Iām dressed appropriately. And even when I least deserve it, sheāll see me as her hero.ā
He paused, his voice tinged with emotion. āSheāll accept my ānoā without bitterness and will grow up comparing every man she meets to me. No matter how old she gets, sheāll still want me to treat her like my little princess. And sheāll defend me against the world with a fierceness that would humble the bravest of warriors. If anyone dares to hurt me, sheāll never forgive themānot ever.ā
The woman listened, her heart warming. Yet, with a glimmer of mischief, she teased, āSo, you think your son wonāt do any of that?ā
The man chuckled. āOf course, he could. But heād have to grow into it, learn through experience. Daughters, thoughātheyāre born with these gifts. Itās in their nature. Being a father to a daughter is a blessing, a kind of pride that humbles you.ā
A contemplative silence lingered before she softly said, āBut you know⦠she wonāt stay with us forever.ā
The man reached for her hand, his tone filled with quiet strength. āI know,ā he said. āBut no matter where life takes her, weāll always be with herāin her heart, in her thoughts, in the little lessons and memories we leave behind. She may not always be in our home, but sheāll carry us with her, wherever she goes.ā
The woman smiled, resting her head on his shoulder. Tears shimmered in her eyes, not of sadness but of profound love.
Daughters are angels. From the moment they arrive, they teach us unconditional love and care, a bond that lasts forever.
Dedicated to all the fathers whose lives are graced by the love of a daughter… or two… or more.
